Babalik ba kay Robredo? Mar Roxas’ Balay faction bets on Isko Moreno- report
Investment banker and blogger Leo Alejandrino said the location of Moreno’s campaign headquarters at the Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City shows Roxas’ support for the mayor’s presidential bid.
The rift among Liberal Party stalwarts poses a problem for Robredo’s campaign, Alejandrino said in his “heneralunacy” blog post dated October 9.
“It is unclear where Leni intends to get the serious money to finance her campaign nor the organization to bring out the vote. One half of the Liberal Party and its financial backers are allegedly with Isko whose campaign headquarters I understand are in the Araneta Center,” he said.
“Her people say they have 3 million social media warriors which will dispense with an expensive air game. They do not say who will man the critical ground game which requires a different set of skills,” Alejandrino added.
The “Balay” faction is known to be loyal to Roxas while the Samar group, which was named after the street in Quezon City where campaign meetings for the late former President Benigno Aquino III were held, was allied with former Vice President Jejomar Binay.
Robredo will be running for president as an independent despite being LP’s chairperson, a “symbolic move” which she said shows inclusivity.
It remains to be seen if Robredo’s objective will resonate with voters if groups within LP and its allies are at odds with one another and pursuing their own respective agenda.
